A short film on Papua New Guinea’s first national park, less than an hour from the capital, for the Amazing Port Moresby campaign. Filmed by Pierre Petit and Marc Dozier.
Varirata National Park sits on the Sogeri plateau, about 48 kilometres from central Port Moresby. Established in 1973, it was the first national park in Papua New Guinea. Its forest is home to six of the country’s birds-of-paradise, including the Raggiana, the national bird.
The film is one of a series made in Papua New Guinea for the Amazing Port Moresby campaign. It follows the park’s guide, Daniel Wakra, through the forest.
Filming birds-of-paradise
Birds-of-paradise display early in the morning, often on the same branches every day. Filming them means knowing those places, arriving before dawn and waiting in silence — which is where a local guide makes all the difference.
