Die gefährlichsten Schulwege der Welt — known in English as Most Dangerous Ways to School — follows children around the world whose journey to school is an expedition. The Papua New Guinea episode was first broadcast on Arte on 1 May 2015.

It takes place on the Great Papuan Plateau, around Mount Bosavi, a land of countless rivers. Two Kaluli children walk for up to seven days through the forest to reach school, crossing rivers and facing crocodiles, rats and scorpions along the way.

A remote region

Bosavi is one of the most isolated regions of the country. For this shoot, Papua New Guinea Fixer handled everything on the ground: permits, access, the relationship with the community, and the logistics of a crew travelling through the forest.
