For once, the explorers come from Papua New Guinea. Two Huli chiefs spend four months in France and describe “the French tribe”. A film by Jean-Marie Barrère and Marc Dozier.

Polobi Palia, the “war chief”, and Mundiya Kepanga, the “peace chief”, come from the Highlands of Papua New Guinea. Invited by their friend, the photographer Marc Dozier, they spent four months in France, from the Paris metro to the Alps.
Along the way they look at the French the way anthropologists usually look at others, and comment on power, work, women and pigs. The film moves between their journey and the moment they tell the story around a fire, back in the forest of Papua New Guinea.
