Reefs, volcanoes and oil palm
West New Britain
On the north coast of New Britain, Kimbe Bay is part of the Coral Triangle, with stilt villages on its islands and reefs close to shore. Behind the coast rise active volcanoes, Ulawun among them, the highest peak on the island, and the oil palm plantations that drive the provincial economy.
Why film in West New Britain
Kimbe is a short flight from Port Moresby, and island villages, reefs and volcanic landscapes are all within reach of the coast. It is also one of the best places in the country to film the story of land, forests and palm oil.
What to film
- Island villages and life on the water
- Coral reefs and diving
- Active volcanoes: Ulawun and Pago
- The oil palm industry
